Health Monitoring in Care Homes

Speakers

  • Rachael Forbister, TECS Programme Manager NHS Sunderland CCG
  • Jason Lewins, Tyne and Wear Care Alliance
  • Louise Morris, Four Seasons Healthcare

Experiences of projects in three different areas using slightly different approaches to monitoring health in care homes.

The benefits are great – firstly for the resident and their family. Care staff, who don’t usually have any nursing qualifications are empowered by being able to do basic health monitoring and can alert health care professionals early, reducing doctor and ambulance call outs, and hospital admissions. Finally reducing admissions has benefits to for the NHS overall. There are a number of challenges though but these can be overcome, but often one is crucial – who pays for such schemes?
